new pathways

Our Secondary curriculum is academically rigorous and designed to develop critical thinking and analytical skills as well as an ability to communicate ideas effectively.

Learning and enrichment also extends to life outside the classroom as part of our commitment to creating respectful, resourceful, responsible, and confident young men and women.

Although the syllabus is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales, we deliver significantly more than this baseline as we prepare our Secondary students for university or direct entry into the workplace.

SECONDARY

Key Stage 3

(Years 7, 8 and 9)

They learn to conceptualise, problem solve, empathise and lead – and also develop an understanding of the challenges facing the modern world.

Equally important is the time and safe space we give them to tackle new challenges and enjoy adventures. With the English National Curriculum at the core, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum whilst embracing UAE culture and National Agenda.

For children who need a little extra support, additional learning, or their own space to grow, our specialist learning support teachers provide encouragement, support, and more time complete tasks. Booster groups are also available for reading, Mathematics, and building fine motor skills development. We also offer differentiated sets for English, Mathematics, Science, and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL).

Personalised pathways

Personalised pathways are available to support students who require either a reduced or enhanced curriculum, and directed study courses are offered to students who require additional day-to-day support or who have elite sport or arts demands that make a full timetable unmanageable. The pathways also suit students who require an accelerated programme of subject-specific study.

Assessment is integral to our learning and teaching. It makes sure each student’s progress is closely monitored against personal learning targets. Daily reviews of individual progress are the basis upon which personal targets are adjusted as each student progresses through Secondary school. An assessment at the start of Year 7 serves as the baseline for each subsequent end-of-year review.

Progress is tracked each term using National Curriculum Standard Assessment external tests and considering the views of class and subject teachers, heads of department and senior staff. The results are captured and communicated to parents in the end-of-year school report.

building confidence

We encourage students to build their confidence, curiosity, and resilience by taking academic risks, experimenting, exploring, investigating, and testing theories.

By inspiring and engaging their pupils, our teachers strive to embed intellectual curiosity and a commitment to learning in an environment of trust and respect. Students and teachers spend time quality together discussing progress and exploring different ways to overcome challenges. Parents are kept in touch with progress through scheduled meetings, impromptu private discussions, and formal reports.

We believe that the development of wellbeing, resilience and social skills is as important as academic development and ensure that Personal, Social and Health education is delivered via a programme of mentoring sessions.

GCSE Options

Watch these videos from our curriculum leads for more information on each of our GCSE Options:

GCSE – KEY STAGE 4

(Years 10 and 11)

In Key Stage 4, the focus is on GCSE/IGCSE examination subjects.

The core curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity, passion and endeavour as well as provide the context for developing a rich range of essential life skills. The broader curriculum provides an opportunity to select subjects that will ignite a passion, and our extra-curricular programmes help to develop qualities such as team building, leadership, and innovation.

The core curriculum subjects which students will study for two years before completing external GCSE/IGCSE examinations in are:

  • English (Language and Literature)
  • Mathematics
  • Science (this can be taken as three separate subjects – Biology, Chemistry and Physics or as a Combined Science Course)

To find out more, download our GCSE Options Booklet.

In addition, students must take PSHE, Social Studies and
(for Muslim Students) Islamic Studies.

For the Broader Curriculum, students select additional GCSE/IGCSE subjects to take to examination level. The options include:
