experienced NURSES

Our skilled and experienced school nursing team is on the front line for students who need advice, care, comfort. They are also on hand for a quick fix and for playground bumps and bruises.

Our medical team are the link between the school and visiting doctors, healthcare providers, anxious parents, and the Dubai health Authority. They also administer immunisation, advice on general wellbeing and healthy eating, and over-the-counter medication with parental consent.

If a child needs off-site medical care (doctor or hospital), our nurses contact parents to make the necessary arrangements, and so it is critical that we have up-to-date contact details.

Parents of children with special medical needs should meet with the nurses to discuss how they can provide the support that’s needed.

In the event of a medical emergency that requires a child to go to a hospital, pupils will be sent to Parkview Hospital.

MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS

The Dubai Health Authority requires the school doctor to examine all children in FS1 and years 2, 5, 8, 11, 13, as well as all new starters to the school.

It’s a quick and simple procedure for which parents are notified in advance. The DHA also requires children of all year groups who transfer from a school outside Dubai, to be examined.

Our nurses also carry out annual height and weight checks, and basic eye tests.

IMMUNISATIONS

The Dubai School Health Services require immunisation records to be maintained for each student.

Please ensure that a copy of your child’s record is lodged with the school nurses when your child arrives at school for the first time. Please also send them any updated immunisation records following vaccination by your own family doctor. It is the responsibility of parents to make sure immunisation records are up to date. No child under the age of 6 years will be immunised in school. Please see the DHA school health immunisation schedule on our school communicator.

MEDICATION

Please don’t send your child to school carrying medication in their pockets or school bag.

If your child needs prescribed medication during school hours, the nurses will need a note of authority from your doctor to administer it. Please make sure the medicine is clearly labelled showing dosage, route of administration, frequency, timings, and the expiry date. Any over-the-counter medications provided from home should be brought in with the manufacturer’s original label and the student’s name on the container.

Finally, the nurses need a note from a parent or guardian authorising them to administer any medicine during school hours. The note should include the child’s name, dosage, route of administration and timings.

SUN CARE

We take our fight against skin cancer very seriously and have made it compulsory for all children in Foundation Stage and Primary school to wear a hat while playing outside.

Our motto is No Hat-No Play. We also encourage all children to take extra care when playing outside in the sun.
