Over the past few years, the Year 6 children have gone away for a four night stay somewhere within the UAE, most recently either Dibba or Khorfakkan. Whilst away, the children have experienced many activities of educational value such as poetry and art work. They have also enjoyed the more adventurous aspects of the PE curriculum such as snorkeling and mountain trekking. From next year, we will be visiting a new site in Kalber which will fulfil both curriculum requirements and provide opportunities for the children to experience physical and more adventurous outdoor challenges. The residential trip also enables the children to develop their interpersonal skills: listening and communication skills; working collaboratively; problem solving and decision-making skills alongside developing closer relationships with the whole year group and the teachers who also participate. This is a valuable, educational and, above all, enjoyable experience. Every child who puts in the commitment to do their best whilst away on the trip will inevitably leave having gained something of value: interpersonal skills, confidence or success in completing challenges. In addition to this, they will have definitely gained more friends.
