Planning for our Post 16 provision at JAS is well underway. We will be offering A levels as well as a range of vocational qualifications, such as T levels.
We follow the British model of Post 16 educational provision. This programme of study is hugely popular across the globe and is universally recognized as an excellent route way to Higher Education, specialist training and the world of work. Our core curriculum will enable in-depth exploration of the key skills, theories, debates and controversies which shape the world of academia. Post 16 study is about intellectual curiosity, liberated discussion and enjoyment. To create this enlightened freedom, students will be supported and guided to ensure they select the right subjects and maintain an equitable balance between individual interests and what is required for university and the workplace.
Our Post 16 provision will consist of Individual learning pathways for each student – challenging and supporting each young adult to achieve their ambitions. Individual students may choose to follow a curriculum consisting of A Level subjects along with a research dissertation (Extended Project Qualification) as well as stretch and challenge additional seminars. This particular pathway will open doors to the top tier global universities. Other students may opt for a programme of study which combines academic and vocational units of work (including a strong element of practical work experience) which could lead to Higher Education or the world of work. The needs of the individual come first.
Academic achievement is still an important key to ‘success’. That is a given. However ‘success’ is not simply about knowledge, memory and grade performance. It is patently obvious that society is passing through a period of transformational change. The era of emotional intelligence has arrived and this must be an area of focus for any Post 16 team but especially one in an institution which describes itself as the school ‘with soul’. Emotional, social and lifelong learning skills will all be developed and embedded via the core learning and extra-curricular programme as well as individual tutorials.
A Post 16 Study Centre has been built. This consists of a series of hi-tech ‘Bubble Rooms’ for student centered group work, individual study bays and a free thinking creative zone. Seminar, tutorial and specialist teaching rooms lead off from this central ‘Hub’. In addition a large social area ‘The Cloud’ is available for relaxation and socializing.
The JAS staff are hugely experienced and have accumulated hundreds of years of Post 16 education between them. Their exceptional levels of teaching has enabled their students to access top level universities and begin outstanding careers.
Many are involved in their own research and study – they know what it is like to be a lifelong learner.
